High-Protein Chicken Calzone (Gluten-Free & Gut-Friendly!)

If you're craving a classic calzone but want a grain-free, high-protein alternative, this chicken-based version is the perfect solution! Instead of using traditional flour dough, we're making a flavorful, protein-packed "crust" using ground chicken. Stuffed with marinara sauce and gooey cheese, this calzone is both satisfying and gut-friendly.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • High-Protein & Low-Carb – Perfect for those looking to increase protein intake without the grains.

  • Gut-Friendly – Made with simple, whole ingredients that support digestion.

  • Easy to Customize – Add your favorite veggies or protein for a personal touch.

Ingredients:

For the “Dough”:

  • 1 lb ground chicken

  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Filling:

  • ½ cup marinara sauce (no added sugar)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional for spice)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat & Prepare – Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.

  2. Make the “Dough” – In a large bowl, mix together the ground chicken, parmesan cheese, and seasonings until fully combined.

  3. Shape the Base – Spread the chicken mixture onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a large oval or rectangle, about ¼ inch thick.

  4. Add the Filling – Spread the marinara sauce over one half of the chicken base, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top, and add red pepper flakes if using.

  5. Fold & Seal – Carefully fold the other half of the chicken mixture over the filling, using a spatula to help lift and shape it. Press the edges together to seal, using a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.

  6. Bake to Perfection – Place the calzone in the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  7. Cool & Serve – Allow the calzone to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping if desired.

Pro Tips for the Best Chicken Calzone:

  • Keep the chicken mixture cold – This makes it easier to shape and fold.

  • Use a well-greased spatula – This helps prevent sticking when folding the calzone.

  • Don’t overfill – Too much sauce or cheese can cause the calzone to break apart.

This high-protein chicken calzone is a game-changer for anyone looking for a gut-friendly, satisfying meal without the grains. Try it out and let me know how you like it!
